The EMERALD Model for the Estimation of the Radial Diffusion Coefficients in the Outer Belt

Radial diffusion is one of the dominant physical mechanisms driving acceleration and loss electrons in outer radiation belt. Therefore, accurate estimation radial coefficients (DLL) crucial for detailed belt modeling. In recent years several semi-empirical (SE) models have been developed which predominantly rely on parameterizations Kp index. However, studies suggested that estimations derived from such can large deviations actual (measurement derived) DLL values. this work we used extensive database created framework Horizon 2020 SafeSpace project spans 9 hourly calculations to develop a model uses solely solar wind parameters derivation The Electric MagnEtic RAdiaL Diffusion (EMERALD) able derive simultaneously magnetic electric components ( , respectively) coefficient, furthermore, provide realistic confidence levels their estimation, allows transition deterministic paradigm robust probabilistic one. Evaluations performance EMERALD are shown by comparing its outputs data, examining reproduction various characteristics. Finally, comparisons with widely SE discussed.
